Licenses

Post by Bovidi » Wed Jun 13, 2012 5:04 pm

I haven't been on tribes recently because I have to work on a few things...one of the things keeping me busy was reading through software license.

To the point though, ever read one of those things...here is the gist of it
GPL: if you create software using GPL you must release your software under GPL as well, which means having to release source code to those who request it (and have been given the end product)

zlib: the license is short and sweet (My personal choice). You can use/modify/release the code, but you have the choice of just releasing the executable without the code.

MIT: Depends on which version...basically similar to zlib

BSD: I didn't bother reading this license...to long

Anyways what are your thoughts on software licenses

I'm not really sure. I think GPL might be my choice often but there are situations where being closed-source is better.
